Switching to mice

Sonya Jun 15, 2004 03:12 PM

Hey, you might remember I got three young (foot long) Northern waters a month ago. I am having good success with them, other than one being a total snot (I think I may offer THAT one to the Nature Center! that might want one). All are eating and adjusting, have shed and have learned to go and check the water bowl if I open their cage, since I am apparently the fish fairy and will make food magically appear. For convenience I was thinking of switching them to take, at least sometimes, mice. My gut tells me to try with pinks in the water bowl. Any ideas, advice or experiences would be great.

Haven't we warned you about tampering with the structure of a chaotic system?

Here is what I would do, I don't know how many fish you usually put in their bowl, but put in half as many as you usually do, and put in 3 or 4 live pinkies. The snakes may devour the fish and see the pinkies moving underwater and may mistake them for fish. Or they may just want pinkies and they'll get them if they see them. They'll also have the "fish smell" on them.

Sweet! I was thinking of doing this also. I too am the fish fairy, but only when his water hazard gets stuff dropped in. He is quite an intelligent snake, goes to investigate and sees fish. The next 10 minutes is quite exciting.
