spotted python injury

eryxboa Jun 15, 2004 04:22 PM

The other night I was cleaning my spotted pythons cage. I had a wadded up ball of electrical tape on top of the cage, that I was using earlier. When I woke up this morning, I saw my snake stuck to the electrical tape. The ball of used electrical tape must have fallen in. The tape is partially wrapped around around her. she is still somewhat small, so taking it off by hand wasnt easy. It was worse, but I managed to get bit by her four times. There is a little more left on her, but I dont want to hurt her, and I dont want to get bit more. This is regular electrical tape, but it sticks better to snakes than to anything that I have ever seen. Im gonna start calling it snake tape. I dont want to let her soak in water, because the tape is stuck close to her head. I would never leAVE electrical tape around a snake, because the grip that it has on snakes is amazing.

Soaking her would let her skin absorb the water and less adhesive and also aid in making the adhesive loose. And being close to her head, I would wear gloves if you can't take getting bit any more. I have been bit and wrapped by an adult female Spotted around my index finger. They do not have very pleasant teeth. But soak her in luke warm water, and use a little bit of soap to loosen up that tape. Be careful not to let any soap or soapy water get around or into her mouth too.
Good luck,
Josh

Hey,
My roommate had a similar incident about a year and a half ago involving a juvenile yellow rat he owned and duct tape. We had tried everything to get it off without harming the snake but nothing seemed to be working. Finally his girlfriend brought over some baby oil and quetips. It took some time and a few bite marks on the hands but we managed to remove the tape by slowly applying the oil to the edge of it with a quetip. Good luck.

Chris
