python injury

eryxboa Jun 15, 2004 04:27 PM

I posted this in the python forum, but that doesnt seem to get viewed as often as the ball python forum, and I would like to get help.

The other night I was cleaning my spotted pythons cage. I had a wadded up ball of electrical tape on top of the cage, that I was using earlier. When I woke up this morning, I saw my snake stuck to the electrical tape. The ball of used electrical tape must have fallen in. The tape is partially wrapped around around her. she is still somewhat small, so taking it off by hand wasnt easy. It was worse, but I managed to get bit by her four times. There is a little more left on her, but I dont want to hurt her, and I dont want to get bit more. This is regular electrical tape, but it sticks better to snakes than to anything that I have ever seen. Im gonna start calling it snake tape. I dont want to let her soak in water, because the tape is stuck close to her head. I would never leAVE electrical tape around a snake, because the grip that it has on snakes is amazing. Any ways to make the tape come off? I dont want to use any harmful chemicals, because she might be cut under the tape.

one of mine got a piece of the electrical tape stuck to his head also awhile back. I put him in a rubber maid container half filled with warm water. He was not happy, moved around alot and put his head under a few times, he soaked for awhile. Then I finally started to give up (I was running out of time to get to the vet before they closed). I also used a little goo be gone or you can use citrus oil(what the vet uses sometimes). I was going to the vet because this was a hard to handle snake on a normal day and me messing with his head was making him crazy.

The vet took him back and came right back up and said is this what you wanted taken off? he was holding the tape, guess it finally came off on it's own. (Just in time so I didn't have to pay the vet) He said the soaking is what worked. This is what worked for me, good luck!

I would be tempted to try a Q tip and vegetable oil. Electrical tape, by its construction, is meant to be waterproof. May take two people with a CP.....I know it would with any of ours!

those so called humane sticky traps recommend cooking oil for removal.
