What about getting a small personal freezer just for the mice?

If your a teen your probably a pro-parent bugger. Just keep workin at it. My mom was scared of snakes so I seetled for a leopard gecko. It's about two years later and I've had ball pythons, hognoses, chondros, bullsnakes. I'm even gonna breed hognoses and chondros soon. Just keep buggin. Take them to herp shows and show them some really pretty snakes. Get them to handle some really friendly snakes. Hey I havent seen them anywhere, but theres snake sausages. Or get an eastern Hognose and keep fozen toads instead

First of all...It's good that they don't mind "the whole snake thing"... Do you have any snakes right now? Since your parents are already OK with the idea of snakes, now you get to educate them even more. Impress them with your knowledge of snakes, especially the kind(s) that you are interested in. Get them to go to a herp show with you if possible. As you are "teaching" them...Make sure that they understand that it is much better for your snake (and cheaper for you) if you buy some frozen rodents.
My wife doesn't mind if I keep mice in the freezer...as long as the ziploc bag is in another bag that she can't see through...They won't ever have to SEE the mice...It's just like any other frozen meat. Keep at it...don't whine, but be persistent. If they understand that your desire to keep mice in the freezer is a result of your knowledge of good animal care, it should impress them that you will be properly maintaining your pet(s). Good luck. Duffy (a parent) If all else fails...ask them, "What's it gonna take?" Maybe there's something that they would like YOU to do, and you could work out an agreement. :D

My wife is the same... I have to keep my rats in a zip lock, inside a zip lock, inside a sealed tupperware container that can't be seen through. Maybe you can talk on your parents about something like that.

You could try approaching them with rationality, although that angle just doesn't work with some Mom's....errrr people!

Try finding out what their specific objections to the mice in the freezer thing is. Is it a perceived health threat? Is it the idea of mice/rats in the freezer and the look of mice-icles and rat-cicles?

The truth is that frozen rodents are amazingly pathogen free, and are not "dirty" any more so than that left over chicken casserole that made it into the freezer from last night's meal. Or the frozen raw chicken/beef/sausage in the freezer.

You could try to alleviate their fears by double ziplocking and then putting the rodents in an opaque tupperware container so that no one has to see the rodents.

Bottom line though: Your parents may be irrational and illogical and no amount of facts may sway their opinion. Then dude, have them buy you a mini freezer for your room or the garage as someone else suggested.

When I was a kid I was denied any reptile pets much less the rodent in the freezer issue. Now I just ridicule people that act like keeping rats in a freezer is weird!!!

Good luck!!!

LOL... Seems like everyone's wives don't like dead mice in the freezer! Funny thing is atleast your wives will let you store them even though they don't like the idea. My wife says NO. She doesn't mind the snakes,my lizards or turtle for that matter at all but she has this thing about rodents. I can't keep mice in the freezer plain and simple. There are some battles you pick and choose. For me I don't argue with her about the frozen mice. You can try to convince your parents about this but the idea of having a frozen mouse in the freezer is just horrible to some people. Mice are considered nasty pests by a lot of people.

Since you are scared your snakes will suffer from rodent bites why not just do what I do. I buy live mice and before feeding my snakes I thump them. The mice get stunned/killed and the snake constricts the mouse while it's knocked out or freshly killed. The problem with this is that if your snake doesn't accept the mouse at that time you can't store it anywhere and are out the cash it cost for the mouse. There is also the risk of the mouse having some sort of internal/external parisites since it was frozen.( I personally have never had any problems with parisites and live mice but apparently there is a risk)

Tell them that if you put the mice in a Zip-loc container that it won't hurt anything. Plus the freezing process kills virtually all the bacteria that may be on the mice...
