absolutely nothing to do with what people like. Its all about YOU and what YOU like. I'd suggest YOU do some research on several species and find one that going to light YOUR fire an hold YOUR interest for the next 20 to 25 years. Never purchase something because someone else says its cool or not cool. People like and dislike things for different reasons that may or may not coincide with YOUR likes and dislikes.

people were discouraging him from getting a blackthroat because he is 14, living at home and has recently purchased a roughneck which has yet to reach adult size. It remains to be seen whether or not he'll be able to house the roughneck properly once it reaches adult size, never mind a large blackthroat. It wasn't that long ago that he was looking for a monitor that didn't require rodents in its diet, for his mother wouldn't allow rodents in the house. This isn't a matter of which monitor is cool or uncool, it's about whether or not he should be buying a whole lot of monitors before his first has even reached adult size.

My advice to you, bdking, is this:

w8 untl yr brn is an adlt b4 u buy anthr mntr. untl thn, 4get bout it. If $ is prblm, big mntrs cost $$ to feed n house, mch more thn they cst to buy.

My advice is for him to learn how to read and write before he gets any animal.
