Ok first let me say that this is the same snake. Has anyone ever seen this before?? Any thoughts?

Nope, both photos were taken in the exact same spot under my desk lamp next to my computer. I have several photos of the brown tongue at different angles, but now its black... Really strange... I have never seen this before. o_O

snake shed their tongues.It was probally freshly shed when it was brown and darkened up a couple of days later.
Excuse my ignorance, but how do you know this? Any literature you could cite or refer me to? I have never heard of that, nor seen it, that's really neat.
I have kept snakes for close to 10 years and never seen that, I'm not saying I think you're lying, just that I have never witnessed such a thing or such changes in any of my animals before.

I would always find them around the cage with my indigos.They were easy to see because indigos are so large.

That's neat. That is such a beautiful snake in your hand!! Is it a flame eastern garter? Do you know if there are any albino flames yet? They would be gorgeous! I have never seen one in person but they sure are pretty.
