Help with Jackson's foot

Anthonyd Jun 15, 2004 09:42 PM

My male Jackson's all of a sudden started to bleed from his toe yesterday, and today the nail is gone. I am not sure how it happened. The screen in his enclosure has large holes where I assumed the nailes could not get snagged. It is on the outside toe of his back left leg. What should I do? The nails do not get replaced, do they? What about infection, is there anything in particular I should look out for. The foot his sore, he is hanging it off of branches when he is resting. But he still can climb. Any advice would be greatly appriciated. Thanks

no, unfortunately the nail will not grow back...you can put a little neosporin on the injury...clean it up a bit first...he probably got it stuck on the screen...it seems to be a common complaint...i have a fine mesh cage and have never had a problem...i have to wonder if it's a dietary problem as some chams never have this problem while others lose every last toenail...anybody know if this is possible or is it just bad luck??

Thanks for the help. It is just one claw, he seems to be doing just fine. He is eating and drinking and climbing around still, but he is seeming to favor that foot. He is a wild caught animal. My other male, CB, died for some unknown reason several months back, and I needed to find another male, and I could only find wild caught specimens. But he was only a juvanile when I baught him and is great shape. I have been feeding him gutloaded crickets, with lettuce, collard greens, corrots, celarey and spinach and i have been dusting the crickets. I will try to add more variaty to the gutloading and see if that help. thanks
