trouble with breeder male

dmlove Jun 15, 2004 10:42 PM

Hey...we recently (the past month or so ago) bought a new breeder adult male, proven. Right now, he is eating and is very active and doing great, but he is not interested in girls at all. He only gets a black beard when he is mad at us. Whenever he is set on the ground he flips out, and runs away. It doesnt seem to be getting any better, maybe a little worse. We have tried him in her cage, her in his cage, on the floor, everywhere. We thought it was maybe windows, as he was staring with fear in his eye at it, so we put him in a room (after he was settled for 5 hrs) in a room with no windows with the female, but he found another thing to scare him (although there was NOTHING to be scared of, an empty room.) Any help in this subject would be very much appreciated.

what usually works best is give him his own tank for at least a week so he can feel comfortable. then put the female with him. You may want to cover the cage completely so he cannot see out. another method is to place them both in glass tanks so they can see each other for a week, then place her in his cage.

With a non aggressive male it is usually best to put the female into the males cage. There is always the possability he is not ready to breed.
