What to do to get them in the mood?

purelake Jun 19, 2003 01:51 PM

A sensual bath and some soft music used to do it, but these guys are positively asexual these days!

Trying to be a good parent I separated my one male from the other females in his harem. He was starting to look skinny and I didn't want to stress out the girls from constant attention from him and too much egg bearing. Upon reintroduction, they have shown zero interest in breeding. The females push him around, sit on him etc. He usually hangs out in the corner while they lounge on the branches and bask. I removed him again and he seems happier now that he can bask and eat his fill but he stares whistfully at the females cage for a good part of the day. The females (one in particular) has started fighting with the other girls. She jumps on their backs and bites them. Last night the girls were in three separate corners all waving and head bobbing to each other, puffing up their black beards.

Do I need to separate these females too? Or should I take take one or two out and put the male back? I have plenty of room to house them all individually if need be. It's so weird because they have all been together since they were little and have never had problems.

Oh, I feed them crickets, meal worms, super worms, locusty-cricket things, dandelions, endive, kale, mustard greens, sweet potato and strawberries (in rotation-so they don't get board.) The females eat A LOT, but my male show little interest except for the locusts.

Sorry this is so long and rambly. Thanks for you opinions and thought!

perhaps try moving the female into his enclosure, where he is established his territory. Just what i have heard, hopefully some experienced breeders can give you a hand with this.
