When first snake pipps....

koenigspythons Jun 16, 2004 07:39 AM

when the first hatchling slits open the egg and emerges, is it a normal practice to carefully slit open the other eggs from the same clutch? Just curious as to how many people slit open their eggs after seeing the first one poke it's head out?

Thanks for your help!

it's pretty common with a lot of breeders to slit eggs after the first pip. That way you don't lose or take the chance of a fully developed hatchling not emergin.

I don't and have never lost an egg. UNLESS, two days have passed since the first egg pipped. On the morning of the second day, I will if they have not done so themselves.

I have heard of people manually pipping the eggs, cutting a vien and killing the animal. I doubt this to be true as the only real part of the snake is the yoke sac. No unless those veins were attached to that...

But to answer your question, I think it is common practice.
