Eggs in water bowl

tjh Jun 16, 2004 08:11 AM

I went to remove the water bowl from one of my female Alternas cage this morning only to find four eggs in the bowl. The water was very shallow(approx. 1/4 in). The bottom quarter of the eggs were wet, but the top three quaters were dry. All eggs look good and by the looks of things she probably has at least two more eggs to lay. What do you guys think about the eggs surviving. She laid 8 days post shed. I have never had a female in my collection lay in less than 10 days. Lesson learned.

Thanks in advance,

TJ

Without more info it's hard to say, but I would definitely set them up and incubate them. You have nothing to lose. Wet eggs are usually trouble in my experience, but, they are still good looking eggs, and that is more than you had this morning before she laid.

If she laid in the waterbowl it would say to me that there is something inadequate in the nest options she had available. What kind of nest box do you provide?

Best of luck with them!!! H
