Took in another stray.........

TomChambers Jun 16, 2004 08:35 AM

I just took this guy in. He was found in an older women’s front yard four years ago (after she called the police and they terrorized it with a stick), but now the people who originally rescued him can no longer keep him.

I’m a Boid guy, but he is a cool snake.

From my research he appears to be an Okeetee?? Little help here…….

He’s about three feet and in good health, he gives a little diversity to my collection.

Thanks,
TomChambers

these little guys are just as addictive as the boids! LOL

I purchased my first pair of corns back in 2002 - a lovely pair of normal hatchlings (the female ended up being hypo-ish). Then I added a male snow corn my best friend gave me when I had to put down my White Oak grey rat snake. When she had to reduce her collection some time after that, I got her female snow corn to go with him. Now I've decided to buy a Creamsicle corn because I've always loved the color of them. I say now that I'm not going to add any more colubrids, but then again, I always used to say I'd just stick to boas (41 snakes and counting now, with a mix of boas, pythons and corns ).

I thought he was an Okeetee, but he looks just like the male pictured a few threads down "Charlston local".

is he a "normal" corn??

It doesn't really matter, he is a pretty laid back snake, content while being held, doesn't try to escape as "I thought" corns did.

thanks for replying,

I would definately call that one a normal (or possibly hypo). He is gorgeous, nice addition to any collection

Nice corn but not an okeetee. The belly of an okeetee is a bright white with solid black checkers. I have seen some with a little orange in the white area in the lower third of their belly scales. The dorsal blotches should be a nice RED with solid thick black borders. That corn looks more like a normal or a hypo, nice, but not an okeetee.

Do you have a pic of the top of your corn/rat snake?I never saw any pattern except the belly checks.

Like I said, I know nothing about corns except what I read from care sheets the last week. I am into python/boa morphs, but I never looked into corns.
is this photo any better???

That is a reflection in the aquarium (on the rock)

I guess I didn't do enough research lol.
nomal is fine with me, he just ate a F/K mouse first attempt.
After dealing with ball pythons, he is already ok in my book.
Thanks again,

Aw, come on Tom, you don't like the ball python's attitude of "I'll eat anything you give me.......except that!" LOL Yep, that's one of the things I love about my corns, too. I've yet to have one refuse a meal - new acquisition, new cage, in shed and I didn't notice, whatever, they just chow down.

I started getting into boas B/c the ball pythons were driving me nuts.
I love BP's don't get me wrong, but for example, I have a female that just started eating again last week from last Sept.
I was just about to force her, then she eats like she never stopped, ohh yeah good times.

Anyway it's nice to have a good feeder, the boas need help eating all the rats and mice that aren't getting eaten around here lol.

Hey, those non-eating BPs sound cheap to feed though. I had to start breeding my own rodents to keep up with all our corns.

I feed like 5-10 rats/mice through the winter between all my BP's, but in the spring/summer/fall, I feed about 40 mice/rats a week just to the Balls.
so it evens out I guess. That female ate 7 mice since last thursday, making up for lost time lol.

I also have 8 rat colonies and 3 mice colonies pumping out plenty of feeders.
