Help about a beginner tank.

ram Jun 16, 2004 01:18 PM

I've decided on a few hardy species for my 10g dart frog tanks, among these species are pothos plants. I see them all the time at department stores but am afraid to put them in my dart frog tanks since they may have pesticides or something else on them. I can't find any websites that sell guaranteed clean pothos. Is there any way to buy store pothos and rid them of all pesticides? Also, about drainage, I've had problems keeping tanks well drained, probably since I may have overwatered. I've been thinking about a false bottom with a piece of airline tubing going down into the bottom so I could syphon water out if there ever was too much. What do you think about this? Thanks in advance.

When i buy pothos i take them out of their original pot and throw it away. then i completly rinse the plant leaves and till there is no dirt on the roots. you can then put it in the tank as long as there will be no animals in the tank for at least 6 weeks. it gives the plant time to grow out all the fertilizers and pesticides. good luck

Thanks a lot. I guess I'll put in some store pothos and wait a while. I want to start my own business as a reptile breeder some day. For the longest time I wanted to call my business Aztec Reptiles, since my parents were born in Mexico and the Aztecs are my ancestors. I also visit Mexico to watch reptiles sometimes. Then I found out the name was taken...by some dude in the UK! I was a little mad but I got over it, guess I'll just have to come up with another one. Oh well.

sounds like an awsome name for a reptile place! too bad its taken, but maybe you could talk to the guy and see if you could work someting out, like there must be so many stores out there with the same names (i.e. "rovers pet store" ect..) or you could just re-work the name, or pick a aztec word or city (although some of those citys are a little hard to pronunce!!) maybe find the word reptile in aztec and use that. best of luck with whatever you do.

You won't have to worry about copying the business name from the UK, you only have to worry if someone else has filed that fictious name in your state. If not, then it's a small fee ($75 in PA) and it's all yours. There are a lot of businesses with the same name from state to state.

I guess I could do that but wouldn't there be some confusion as to which AztecReptiles business people talking about? I also don't think the other guy would like it very much and he would think I "copied" his name. Maybe I could make it AztecReptilesUSA so people could tell the difference.
