Baby stealing..

monitorman315 Jun 16, 2004 02:58 PM

One of my other female rats wont stop stealing babies from anothers litter. Shes being very gentle about it and even appears to be trying to nurse. But my concern is its becoming a tug of war with babies, whats going on with these 2? Also the thief is pregnant. Could this be a sign that shes about to deliver soon?

The other female(theif) just delivered but so far only 7 pups. Its amazing though how the 2 moms worked together thru the process for the one with 2 day old pups went over and helped eat away the ambilicle cords and clean the pups. Even took the freshly delivered ones over to her nest and nursed them while the other pushed out another pup. Im a bit excited this is my first time breeding and viewing the process but the great thing about it is ive only had my colony for about 9 days and already to litters, should have another soon since all 3 of my females were housed with my male at the petstore so we'll see. My mice should be delivering in the next few days also, the females look like they're about to pop.

Haven't we warned you about tampering with the structure of a chaotic system?
