HELP with care please: "common" back yard toad given to my son for his birthday...more

icequeen Jun 16, 2004 03:14 PM

My 10 year old sons "girlfriend" gave him two little brown toads for his birthday.

I am 100% in favour of letting the little guys go in our garden, but my son wants to keep them for at least a couple days.

So, in the meantime, can anyone give suggestions on what they should be eating?

My God they are TINY only about ---- that big!!! I have no clue what to give the poor little beggars, or what to keep them on.

We have a VERY large fish bowl that would seem like a foot ball field to them, so I think that will be the accomodations for the time being.
There is about an inch of gravel in the bottom. Do I add some water to keep the humidity up? what about some sod?

Any advice, or links on the care of these little brown toads would be greatly appreciated.

What i would suggest is getting some pinhead crickets or fruit flies to last you the few days you will be keeping them. Also for water just use something like a milk cap filled with a little water, as toads don't need a whole lot of water but the do enjoy the occasional soak. good luck
