I really hope......

Okay, so I'm posting this message even though I know the answer to my question. Arg! Is there any possible way that a female tegu could possibly "pretend" to be a male and pop out false hemipenes? I noticed my little "girl" pooping today and "she" popped out some hemipenes. I was told that she was a female when I got her at a few weeks of age, but I didn't ask about the accuracy of the breeder.

Females can evert hemiclitori. From what I've read, they look different from the hemipenis, but if you're not experienced at telling the difference, they can fool you.

No, unfortunately I do know what the hemipenes look like when they're everted. And unfortunately that's definitely what it was. I thought it was weird that she was developing jowls and exhibiting some male breeding tendencies toward my colombian, Blake. Oh well. At least I have a good excuse to build another enclosure.

Oh, well. I was hoping for you that maybe I could give you a solution to your hope. Guess that means you'll have to get more tegus (grin)
