Dish Soap

evilbob Jun 16, 2004 09:39 PM

Hi everyone,
I have some old silk vines that I want to put in with my green tree frog. I cleaned them with dawn dish soap, I kinda left them in the bucket for a while and now they smell like dish soap. I rinsed them a few more times with just water, and tried soaking them in water overnight and they still smell. Would they be safe to out into the cage, Or did I ruin them?

I wouldn't chance it so i'd leave them out of the tank. Next time you need to clean something i recommend just using warm water. good luck

Warm water? That has no affect at all on disinfection.

Soap residue is exactly why it is not used professionally, it is too much of a risk to the amphibians. You can try soaking the vines for a week or two in water and changing it frequently. In the future you can use a very diluted bleach solution, then refilling the water and using a dechlorinator to rid the material of the bleach.
