Midland brown pics

Justin Stricklin Jun 16, 2004 10:00 PM

I think this would be a midland brown. It is the only brown snake species in my area. First one I have ever found. The top looks alot like a redbelly snake, but it is not. Redbellys are not in my range. I over looked it the other day in my field guide when I said that brown do not live in my area. I found one, and checked my field guise and it was in my range, it had no pics though. you want these michael?

Sorry about all these pics being blurry. I guess it is because the snake would not quit moving. As soon as I would be ready to snap the pic it would move.

No I want the pics, or the snake for that matter. I'm suprised you don't find many brown snakes, here in Pittsburgh, northern brown snakes and shorthead garters are found alot more than I want them to be. It does help though, feeder food is always available.

Hey,

lol I meant to say I don't want the pics. Maybe if you had a pic of the snake eating, that would be something worth using. Their favorite food is slugs, but they will also take earthworms and snails.

I have yet to get it to eat, but it's only been couple of days. I caught it on tuesday. I sure wish there were plenty of thee in my area. This is the first one i have found. Garters are not even common. I have only found one, and it was a baby eastern. I'm not sure why there are not more, but I am always looking understuff trying to find somthing. If I can get it to eat in front of me I will try to get some pics of it eating. Black racers and water snakes are the only abbundant snake in my area. They are everywhere. Next to them would be grey rats, then copperheads, then ringnecks.
