anyone ever have this feeding problem

eunectes4 Jun 17, 2004 07:36 AM

one tree boa of mine (young) was just holding mice near her throat for a few feedings and it kept worrying me. I would wait for a while and sometimes she would just keep her mouth open or work it in right behing her head so she could close her mouth...but she never would complete the task. I would wait and continue feeding other animals and leave the room and would go in to check on her and she would still have it there..so I would touch her on the throat after a while and she would regurge it and i would throw it away and try another day. i fugured maybe it was too big or she was going through shedding trouble or something. or maybe just the position was hard for her to get it around a kink in her neck..either way..i didnt want her having a problem from leaving it in her throat. But tonight i was noticing lots of animals disturbed at my outside movement so I just left the room for a long time and everyone, including her, took down food great and had no wierd behavior. I have never really had any trouble with this until recently but have any of you had anything thing like her holding in her throat and wait move?

That behavior is pretty normal in amazons. They have pretty good eyesight and movement will sometimes disturb them. For some reason, its my males that may hesitate taking food down while I am working around the snake room. Easy solution that you figured out on your own, just feed and leave the room.
