Though I am not sure on all the answers I thought I could answer a few of your questions. Others here with much more experience in crested geckos hopefully will fill in the blanks I am missing or nor sure of.
>>>1. I was thinking of using EcoEarth or Bed-A-Beast as a substrate, but was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on ESU's Jungle Mix?
Injestion is always the concern with lose substrates. I have heard crested geckos eating Bed-A-Beast accidently while trying to catch insects. I use just plain paper towel and it works great and makes the cage much easer to clean.
>>>2. When feeding baby food, what do I need to look for when finding a good brand? Are there popular brands among crestie keepers?
I haven't heard anything about what brand of babyfood to use, but I suggest going with any that have a lower sugar content. I use Heinz brand babyfood mostly because it's what my store has LOL
>>>3. What is the purpose/role of their Calcium sacs?
The purpose of the calcium sacs is to store calcium for bones (and with females) egg shell development.
>>>4. I usually only hear people mention feeding bananas, peaches and apricots.....what about other non-citrus fruits? I also plan on getting a blue-tongue skink whoe will eat fruit and I thought it would be nice to be able to coordinate meals. Things like fig, papaya, mango, raspberries, blue/blackberries, melons, strawberries, guava, etc.
Any non citrus fruit is fine, including all the ones you mentioned feeding a blue tongue skink. So if you get both, they can share the same food (just not the same cage).
>>>>5. I'm looking at getting a Boaphile cage (24x18x18). Is this a good size for a single adult and does this cage seem like a good idea? If so, I'm also trying to figure out how many vents to order and where they should be placed. Here's a link to the cage:
Never used the Boaphile cages, but good ventilation is necessary to ensure mold etc doesn't grow due to the dampness. Two vents should be enough (again don't take my word for this as I never used these cages before...I use a large semi-clear sterlite container and I just drilled holes on the lid and sides to ensure good air flow but not so much the container can't retain humidity.
For your other question on your second post about living plants, I recommend don't bother. Having a live plant means making sure it is non-toxic, can thrive in humid and shady climbs, is sturdy enough to have a gecko running all over it, easy to clean as he's going to poo all over it. This also means you have to keep soil in the cage, which again makes it harder to clean and most plants don't like getting uprooted once a month. Most breeders and myself (though I don't breed geckos...yet) would recommed silk/cloth artificial leaves/plants. I use them, much easier to clean, actually cheaper than buying a plant and best of alll, they don't die.
