color/morph question

almeizy Jun 17, 2004 01:34 PM

I am fairly new to snakes, I have a baby ball python apparently it is about 2 months of age. He has VERY bright yellow/gold markings, seems like it almost has a tint of green in certain lighting. I only paid 45.00 for him, captive bred. Is he considered a normal morph or is there any type of morph that would relate better to him, im sorry i dont have pics but picture a standard ball python with black/green eyes, and high gold markings.

it's a normal...a ball's pattern has great variation. Just like people you could put 100 people of the same race in a room & find something different on every one of them.. if you felt that there was something truely different then breeding will decide if there's genetics involved. But the possibility of someone selling you a one of a kind ball for 45 bucks is real slim. Sometimes you'd get lucky but I wouldn't count on that. That's the problem with the classifieds these days. Over the past couple years it seems like it's getting worse if someone sees anything that is in the most miniscule difference from another ball .."Ohh my god it's so & so crazy looking wild out of control ball python" act now & only lose a thousand dollars..lol I say enjoy your normal ball python & the fact that it has High Gold in it I bet it's a pretty snake which it may be somewhat genetic & pass on to the children but it's probably not something so worth wild where I would bet my house on it

yeah i guess it is probably normal, but i bought it from Regal Reptiles in Providence, RI a very well known reptile distributor/zoo type place in New England. I am friends with some of the people that work there and they told me straight up that the ball python I bought should have been at least 100 -150.00 Even if it is a normal morph, I think it is beautiful and one of a kind!

i know regal i've bought geckos from them..they are always at the ny metro expo that i frequent...true i say if a normal is very good looking 150 dollars isnt outrageous but i have seen far worse & if you have a snake you are in love with I understand the urge to feel that maybe there's something special locked inside of him especially since the way these new ball morphs have just been popping up out of nowhere. But for the most part it is prob just a wonderful & pretty normal ball. As a kid I remember how awesome a normal balls color & pattern variations looked to me. I feel that in the wake of all these morphs some have forgotten the beauty of a plain old normal ball. I wish you the best of luck & if you can get a pic I would love to see your special lil one.

I couldn't agree more about the plain old normals. In my eye they are far more attractive than albinos or pastels. Call me crazy if you like (most people do anyway). I do like the axanthics(sp?) though, something about the gray and black.
