My babies are hatching, well, 1/3 are hatched, three of the 4 that have hatched have a very DARK orange stripe down the middle of their bellies, they have the checkering, but one even appears to have a partial "skull" on it's head. two others lask the pattern of the skull, but have quite a lot of gray on their heads. Could my snow have been het br?:-D or do all normals look like this?
I have had normals hatch out with a somewhat "skull" type head pattern, similar to bloods. They were from the same mother and father both times, '01 and '02... The father was also crossed to a bloodred both years and produced no bloodreds, and the mother doesn't look to be bloodred-ish, either. (I'll find out more next year, she's doing my pewter in '04, hehe.)
The way you describe them they don't sound like "typical" normals, to me. At least from the few (still less than 150 total) I've hatched so far. One (which came from my bloodred, pics linked) has the belly stripe like you describe, but that's only one out of 40 hatchlings... (?!?! hehe)
I'd love to see pictures, but I bet there are plenty of people around here who will be able to tell you a whole lot more about what you are looking at. I'm still pretty new to hatchlings of those flavors.
Also, when they shed they might change significantly. (shrug)
Don Soderberg is a good person to ask about bloodreds. And be prepared to show pictures of the parents. Have pics of heads/bellies (parents and hatchlings) ready, too.
