It appears to be a southern alligator lizard.
When asking for an ID, it is best to post which state and county an animal was captured in.

That dose look like a S. Alligator Lizard. It’s a pretty light variation. All my S. Alligator Lizards are much darker than that. .

Thanks. I found it in the back of the truck. There are tons of these little guys down here, I live in California. Except they seem very tame, many websites say they will bite and hiss when captures. My lizard has never even hissed. And what do you mean by interesting in the terrarium?

That is interesting. What part of California do you live in? I live in Amador County. All of my S. Aligator Lizards do hiss and snap at me. They remind me of real Aligators as all it takes is to stick my hand in the cage and one of them always has a go at my hand. Also my S Aligator Lizards are not to interesting to watch. They hide out in the peat moss 95% of the time. Is is sort of fun to watch them eat and every so often they bask but like I said 95% of the tiem mine hide out. They are verry secretive lizards. Also be prepaird these Lizareds can eat you out of house and home verry fast. Between the 2 S Aligator Lizards I have they go through about 100 crickets a week.

Lol, I know, they eat a lot. When I found my lizard I just picked it up without any problem. Now, when I pick it up, it wont hiss, but it will try to bite me sometimes, but if it's too much work to get to my hand, it wont even try. I can reach in its cage without any problem. In my cage I have a peice of driftwood under the basking light, he loves it there. It's really cute because sometimes he'll fall asleep in a really weird position, or like half off the driftwood and half on. I love watching him, whenever he sees me he goes up to the glass and looks at me. He is kinda evil at times, but thats ok. I live in San Mateo, if you pull up weeds in this one area, they will all scurry away.

How much and how often do you feed your lizard? And do you know how to sex them. I think my lizard is stil young because he is about 5 inches from the head to the base of the tail. Thanks
