My Other question is how many coats should I put on each piece of plywood and 2x4's and how long should they dry?

Well first off stay away from the spray type urethane. It drys quick and all that, but you won't get the penatration you will with the regular liquid. The Minwax Fast-Drying Polyurethane Semi-Gloss Gallon should do you jsut fine. I would suggest 2 coats with the first being allowed to dry for at least 24 hours and then apply the second coat that you will need to let it sit and dry for at least 5 days so that all the solvents can evaporate. Outside is best for that if the weather is nice, but not in direct sunlight or it will cause the urethatne to shrink and crack. Then after it has had sufficient time to air out you should wash the whole thing with water and mild detergent like liquid dish soap. This will get rid of any residue that could harm your snake. Hope it all comes out well.
