Cresty_C Jun 17, 2004 07:31 PM

ok now, ive always used vermiculite for nest/humidity boxes.....and my geckos would often eat it...so now im using peat moss..the brown dirt stuff we use in our garden....and this is better for them to ingest? no chance of inpaction like vermiculite? just want lots of opinions on this becasue i am always puzzled.

Any particle substrate carries the risk of causing impaction. I won't say peat moss is an exception, but I will say the risk is very low. Even when it's moist and packed, it breaks down easily under running water.

(Btw, don't use paper towels for a laybox as the other poster suggested. It's bad for the eggs.)
