DR Seward, RE your nest box.............

lateralis Jun 17, 2004 07:53 PM

Are the females consistently finding their way to that 3rd chamber? or do they occasionally lay in the chamber next door to where they are originally placed? Thanks for sharing your developments! I may try to apply this technique to my exasperatums some day.
Cheers
Brett

Hi Brett,

I have tried a few different configurations. In some of the boxes, I placed a “roof” at the very end of the last chamber to create a little tighter space. Every female in those boxes deposited her eggs in that very end space. Then, after laying, they back-fill and completely close up the that distal section (the last third division) with substrate.

I, too, may try a similar set-up with some beadeds this year.

Mark

P.S. Thanks for your book order!

A deep, dark, burrow like they use in the wild no doubt. Got the book today thanks for signing it! I see some cross over to using that incubation technique with my Womas, I think the eggs would like the conditions it offers better than the usual methods employed. Have you ever tried the ultrasound on beadeds? I am thinking of asking my vet if he would give it a try when they get older. 2 are about 18 months, 3 are 5-6 months, what do you think? I imagine things are similiar enough to warrant a try, yes?
Cheers

I have used the ultrasound on Beadeds. In Gilas, the best time to check is the fall of year two or the following spring.

Let me know how it goes.
