A Little Toad

kathy22 Jun 17, 2004 09:01 PM

Hi, I was out in the yard today and there were tons of baby toads everywhere and the birds were having a feast. So I decided to keep one. I set him up a nice tank with bed a beast, a water bowl, and a hiding spot and put a couple bugs from the yard in there until I can get an easier food supply hehe. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what kind of toad this is? This is a nice close up shot. I live just north of Atlanta and these guys are absolutely everywhere. They come in shades ranging from green to brown, this is one of the browner ones. He is about the size of a quarter. I plan on buying him some small crickets tommorrow. Thanks a lot!

Cute toad! I would guess it's a Fowler's toad.
Good luck with him. Has he eaten yet? Sometimes wild-caught frogs/toads can be hard to get eating in captivity. But once they find a nice spot to burrow in, they usually settle down.

No he hasn't eaten yet. If i can't get him to eat within a few days I can always let him go. He stalks the bugs and follows them around but he hasn't bit one yet.

Sounds like a plan. When catching wild herps, I always give them a few days to eat, and if they do not, they get released.
