Copperhead feeding? Please Help.

SlipKorn Jun 17, 2004 09:21 PM

I've been keeping Copperheads for a few years and I have never had a problem getting them to feed for me. I caught a pair about a month ago(1 male 1 female). I have not had any luck with feeding them yet. I have tried live and dead mice but no luck with anything yet. Does anyone have any tips on getting them to start feeding. Thanks.

Hmmm....

A couple questions before I can really conclude what the problem is:

1. What are the temps in their cages?

2. Have you tried leaving thawed (and still warm) mice in their cages on a rock?

3. Have they been showing any signs of sickness? Such as "stargazing", difficulty breathing, wet nose, or messy stools?

Unfortunately I don't know a whole lot about copperheads feeding habits... is it possible that they fast similar to ball pythons?

Don't know if that helps...

i had the same problem when i got my first copperhead, a broadband w.c., i had read in a post in kingsnake a while back in dec 03' timeframe the suggestion was to use uv lighing on them i tried it only took about 3 days, not shure if it was the light or him starving, lol, i usualy wait mine out, they can go a good bit with out eating as long as it appears helthy and active should be fine for a while,
