Kinda weird. The only reason I can imagine is because their export is restricted in their home countries??

I don't live in Mass, but can speculate. Some interest group that disagrees with the keeping of exotic animals got to some elected representatives and proposed legislation to make keeping them illegal. Some states consider any herp a threat to public health because of exaggerated risks of salmonella. Some parents are stupid enough to let their kids kiss or put pet herps in their mouths. Some states are attempting to control what types of animals are bred or sold in their state...and consider nothing other than a cat or dog to be a legitimate pet.
