Puking chameleon

idreammylifeaway Jun 17, 2004 10:36 PM

My 8 month old female veiled chameleon was hanging upside down hacking up a long 1-2 inch stream of half digested crickets. And for the past 7 hours shes been hanging upside down by her tail. I have her in a 100 gallon mesh cage with heat lamps and uva uvb lighting in the day. Does anyone know the cause of this? Does she have eggs? What do I do? thanks

Is she a wild caught?

thats not a good sign, does she look healthy besides that? I'd get her to a vet. Although I dont think they can draw blood with a young chameleon, you said she was 3 months??

This is not good. You need to have a vet check her for possible intestinal infection, blockage, injury, or parasites. Do you feed her late in the day close to when the lights are turned off? If there is a lot of undigested food in the stomach overnight it can putrify before the cham can digest it. And, they need body heat to digest properly.

It needs to get to around 100F so she can digest her food.
If it is warm enough I would take her to a vet.
