Hi does anyone know if the sulcata tortoises do better in a pair or alone? Thanks

Mine will go on a rampage and attempt to kill anything he thinks
might be another tortoise regardless of size. Otherwise he's an
overgrown doll baby mommy's boy. Do NOT get two sulcatas, you
will have a difficult enough time with one, and if they are both
males (very likely) they will try to kill each other. They are
loners and don't want or need company of other torts. Two females
might be OK with enough space but there's no way you can be
sure of that, and a male/female pair will be stressful for the
lone female.

I have found that my sulcatas are extremely happy together. I think the trick is to give them enough space. It works extremely well. Also, My big female is bigger than my male, so she intimidates him. Anyway, I've found that tortoises in general enjoy each other's company. If they get a little too rambunctious, separate them for a while. After they got used to each other, My Rapture and Parry have gotten along fine. Once in a while, she'll flip him, but she almost always flips him back over (and when she doesn't, we do. It's part of our job as pet owners.). I would strongly recommend two (or even three) sulcatas together, as long as you have enough space for them to be alone if necessary.
