Here's a pic of the Hypo I'm thinking about buying, mentioned a few posts down

Mark_and_Aimee Jun 19, 2003 05:05 PM

I went back up to the store, and snapped some pics of her... She is just about 6 ft long. The store told me she is 4 yrs old, bred once, and came from a local breeder who did not want his name given out.

I looked closer at her (lack of) a left eye, and there is actually 2 OLD scars there - possibly a rodent bite from several years ago. This could have caused an eye to disappear!

This shows her pattern and color more than the other photo. I like her nice little "bowtie" saddles... You can see her tail better in the next pic.

This is the best picture I got of her tail... A pretty big tail if you ask me.

I wish the picture was clearer... I no longer think this is a birth defect. It looks like there is some old scarring there. I was also told the snake had always been fed live prey.

Another picture I wish was clearer... BTW, these were taken under flourescent light, with my camera's flash on. Her colors are quite a bit brighter than what you see here.

I put a deposit on her, and will be picking her up in a week at the most.... But possibly tomorrow. As soon as I get her home, I will take some nice outdoor shots.

In other words, I decided she was worth $350 to me!

Ironically, the good news is if the eye was damaged (by rodent or otherwise) then it isn't hereditary. On the otherhand, the sellers don't seem to either have any of the facts straight or are bold-face lying. Be that as it may I think I might have been inclined to do what you have done! She looks like a very worthwhile animal IMHO.

I am in agreement, if the eye was damaged by something, that is better than it being born that way. But still... Being born with one eye is not necessarily hereditary. A simple birth defect may be just that, and not anything to worry about at all.

In any event, if this snake's babies are all born with one eye, I'll personally skin and eat her! JK

It was tough - I hate buying animals from pet stores anyway... But sometimes there is just that one you cannot refuse! And this happened to be that one.

Now... The biggest question - Do I breed her to:

a. my Hogg Island Boa
b. my VERY dark Central American Boa

or

c. the Het Albino I will be purchasing in a week or two?

My idea... I'd love to see some hypo x hoggs, so I may go for that one first - and then wait until the het albino male is old enough to breed.

But, hypo hoggs would be pretty cool. I wouldn't mind owning one someday.
Best of luck with her.

Personally, I do not like cross breeding, but thats just my opinion She looks like she has some good blood, so why not breed her to a nice light male, or another hypo?

Best of luck,

Erik
