Guru!!!

SouthernBel Jun 18, 2004 10:44 AM

Guru was my very first iguana several months ago and was in very poor condition at the time. His/her previous two owners had not known how to care for the little baby. That is when I delved deeply into iguana husbandry and with the help of my vet got the fiesty critter well on his/her way to a complete recovery.
When I took in my next two iguanas, Kermit and Tahra, one of my brothers asked if his family could keep Guru as their pet. I agreed since three iguanas took up a lot of space and we were going to have to build another ADULT enclosure soon as Guru grew!
My Beloved Kermit has been gone so long now I am trying to move on, and my brother graciously offered Guru back to me since his daughter is frightened of him anyway, and I gladly accepted!
He needs to gain some weight and I know he's been taken care of properly, so I'm taking him back to the vet for another internal parasite check since it has been a few months.
I figured Guru would need a few days to adjust to being back here before eating and such, but instead he walked in like he owned the place, ate a whole dish of greens, and climbed into the tub for a nice long bath! What a character!

I truly believe that Guru is older than his length would lead one to believe. His first couple of owners weren't even sure how long they had had him (geez, people!)and he was very malnurished and trapped in a tiny 20 gallon aquarium
I don't know how long it will take him to, "catch up," if that is the case, but he has been in a nearly continuous shed for months!
Here are some pictures of Guru on his first day here, the first time around. I didn't realize then just how bad off he really was, but looking at these pictures now makes me want to cry!
