Question?

greenlizard69 Jun 18, 2004 01:42 PM

I bought a green anole yesterday and was told that I could feed it bugs that I caught in my backyard and I was wondering if this was true. Also I was wondering if a June beetle is alright to feed it.

Hi! You can feed insects from your yard, however if you or any of your neighbors use pesticides it can kill your lizard. I would not advise doing so. Also as far as june bugs, they may be a little large for an anole. As a rule of thumb for reptiles you should not feed them anything wider than their mouths.

OK thanks.

If you really want to use backyard bugs, also keep in mind that some aren't good choices. June bugs might be too big, but they're also beetles which have hard wing casings - difficult or impossible to digest. Fireflies are also bad, and anything that may hurt your anole - bees, wasps, venomous spiders, etc.

grubs and soft things like that are good, but you nught want to avoid earth worms.
