yellow eggs seem to be okay

bluerosy Jun 18, 2004 02:32 PM

I had these eggs laid by my amel. lavender Dream kings. At first I thought they may be bad but they have perked up a bit. They still are a bit yellow but otherwise healthy and plump.I was a bit worried after Sasheena posted about her eggs being yellow and not fertile.

The yellow eggs I had laid ALL showed signs of veins, which I understood to mean they were fertilized eggs... however they all died, which leads me to believe that the three day period with high heat for the mother while gravid interrupted or damaged something in the eggs, so that when they reached ten to twelve days post laying they started to die.

I think that a clutch of 15 slugs would have been easier to take than a clutch of 15 eggs which, albeit yellow, developed strong veins, and THEN started to die.

Good luck with yours! They look nice. I'm sure mine was a fluke of the Air-Conditioning Gods!

Sometimes I leave the heat tape on and it gets up to 88F in the snake room. These eggs were laid under these conditions and they looked a lot worse last week. I took a pic today and the yellow color has dissipated some. Definetly yellow compared to normal eggs but still look good.

I have and abino Cal. King that laid a cluch of eggs last year, and this year, that look like yours, last year they hatched fine,9 eggs except one, that was infertile. This year she laid 12 eggs, and one is infertile, but they haven't hatch this year yet.

Good Luck,
