Food for "froglets/toadlets"

frogsandchams Jun 18, 2004 04:36 PM

I found some tadpoles in Late April in a small puddle that dried up about 4 days later! I have been feeding them boiled spinach or lettuce and some "tadpole bites". Now some are turning into froglets/toadlets. I transferred 2 into a tank because one drowned already. Water was only 3 inches deep with a rock in the center for the little guys. What do these new guys eat? I am planning on releasing them all into the wild, just need to keep a couple to see their progress, and what they become. I have many frogs so I know their upkeep. The tadpoles are black, almost 1/2" long. Are they toads? I live in NJ, where there are toads, peepers, Grey Tree Frogs and Pine Barren Tree Frogs amongst us.

Fruit flies and pinhead crickets are available from most pet stores or online feeder retailers. They are very small and most frogs will eat them without hesitation. You can also dig through moist leaf litter outside for springtails and the like as long as you are sure there are no fertilizers or chemicals in the area.

And the sign says "No long hair freaky people need not apply." So I put my hair under my hat and I went in to ask him why. He said you look like a fine outstanding young man I think you'll do. So I took off my hat I said "Imagine that Huh Me working for you."-Tesla
