Anery Motley Corn.. Prices?

sullman Jun 18, 2004 06:21 PM

Hi all,
I just got a Tangerine Honduran Milk snake yesterday that was hatched in 2002 but I am returning him to the pet shop because he is VERY WILD. I can't even walk by the enclosure without him freaking out MAJORLY(I know snakes take some time to settle down but this guy is the wildest snake I have ever seen that was a CB. I have held WC black racers TAMER then this guy and everyone knows how racers are!). I already have a 50/50 cali king and a yellow rat snake who is somewhere in my house after getting out of his enclosure. I know snakes are wild animals but this guy is a little to much with the musking, biting and just really wild.

Anyway I am going to get another snake(Just not any type of milk snake, this is the first one I owned and 'MAYBE' the last.I was under the impression these guys were pretty tame. The pet store has a Amery Motly Corn who looks to be about 4 feet long(couldn't tell because he was coiled up) for 85 dollars. Is this about the right price for one of these? I don't really know much about the morphs or anything since I have just started getting into snakes about a year ago(when I bought my yellow rat snake). I paid 80 for the Milk and 70 for my 50/50 cali king. Also what is the average size of a corn snake? I heard 3 1/2 - 4 feet but every adult I seen is larger...being about 4 - 5 feet long.

I mean ordering a snake online is cheaper but tack on the 35-50 dollar shipping and handling and they can be more expensive.Just looking for some advice. They also have a hatchling albino cali king for 70 that I was looking into also.I handled him yesterday and he was very calm.

Corns can get anywhere from 3 1/2 to 6 feet in length.
If that anery motley is at least 4 feet then it is an adult and in my personal opinion it is definitely worth $85.00.
Go to some of the sponsor sites listed above and look at their prices for adult snakes.
Talk to the shop owner and find out as much as you can about the snake before you get it though.
It is very possible that it is an old snake that has been retired from breeding.

Thanks a lot Jimmy. I figured an adult would be more in price then a hatchling would be.I will definately ask when he was hatched and if he was a breeder or not. If he is over 5 years old I think I'll pass on him and get the albino king hatchling that is for sale. I know corn snakes are pretty docile like king snakes and being that I have kids around...well you can understand my concern about this milk snake. I had no idea Milk Snakes were so flighty and nasty and was under the impression they were docile snakes. This guy reminds me of a racer thats how wild he is...actually some WC racers I have held are tamer then this guy is..lol. He frails around, musks and moved his head around my hand until he found a nice soft spot to chew on!I mean I would have no problems keeping him at all as I know he will tame down eventually but my wife is not so sure so to please her I guess I have to return him.

My king snake is a year old and only musked me ONCE and that was when I brought him home and took him out of the dish he came home with me in. My yellow rat snake was a hatchling and took only about 3 weeks to fully tame down. This milk is 2 years old and about 3 1/2 feet long so it's a lot different the taming a 12 inch hatchling..lol
