Very under fed Gecko .......looking for advice

snafubmxer4life Jun 18, 2004 07:02 PM

OK i guess ill start with how I came to being the owner of the gecko ...........yesterday a girl came into the pet store my sister works at and said she wanted to give away her gecko cage and all my sister told her that we would take it.........today we went and got it from them, they pretty much handed us the cage got in there car and left. The cage had felt carpet in it a log hide with the staple an tag still attached and another little hide .....also had some little wood shavings laying in it looks like the kind they keep mealworms in like they jus dumped everything in ..........When i got home an examed the gecko he was in the middle of shedding an looks to be way under fed and weak just wonder what you guys would suggest doing to help it become healthy again. If you have any questions just ask im sure i left some stuff out ill be glad to answer.......oh yea they said its around 1 year old.

I would use some wax worms to fatten her up. Not too many, you don't want a cow on your hands. They can become addicted to them quite quickly too. Silk worms are expensive, but they are loaded with good stuff. Also if she hasn't been fed much, don't cram in 5 dozen crickets, start slowly, like put in a couple and watch. If she gobbles them up, add a couple more.

How much does it weigh?

You might also have a fecal test done. It might be that the poor thing as parasites.

It's definitely a good thing that it's eating. Waxworms are good for fattening up - and they're not TOO expensive.

Good Luck!
