it's wire mesh or screen.it has different size openings,1/4" or 1/2" etc. ask to see it on your next trip to the hardware store.

In HomeDepot look on the isle that has fencing. Use the size that will let you put food on top and the mice can chew/knock it down when they're hungry.

I think a 2'x25' 1/2" roll was $17
