of some nice bullsnakes. Do you see many of these during your hikes?

I wish I did. I don't get to bullsnake country that often and when I do, they are not that easy to find.

very nice! thanks tim......i noticed that a lot of bulls from that area have red or rust on them. is that fairly common?
I haven't seen enough of them to draw any conclusions, but from what I have seen and what I've been told by the local experts, the first photo is more typical of this area.
The second one had a brighter background. She was a much younger snake. The first photo was taken very early in the day and in the shade, so the photo didn't do her justice. Bullsnakes in Wisconsin are confined to local populations. The ones we have left though are very nice.

Cool Animals, it never ceases to amaze me the differences in bulls from different regions. Was the big one gravid, she looked like she was.

Oh boy,
Tim I love the bullsnake you have in the first pic, nice bold pattern and a lot of contrast anterior to posterior. Wow. A good a reason as any to visit Wisconsin!
