Overwintered Threetoed Hatchlings need adoption

nathana Jun 18, 2004 09:14 PM

Some of you might remember me. My wife and I breed turtles each year and give away the hatchlings when they are ready in the hopes that the people adopting them will not buy wild caught animals.

This spring we found three three-toed box turtle hatchlings that had survived overwintering (we missed the nesting as at least one of our gals had a second fall nesting we didn't know about) and emerged.

They are bright eyed and scaley-tailed and in need of new homes.

There are three of them. All we ask for is shipping to be prepaid via paypal (around $30 for overnighting), and that you let us know how you plan to raise them (please email a photo if possible).

We've got a hovabator crammed with eggs this year, so full it's crazy and I've missed three nestings that I know about. Fall will be a busy time for us, when we'll have eastern and three-toed boxies.

In any case, if you are interested, please email my wife at alesia(at symbol)aileo.com

She handles the arrangements. Any questions she'll direct to me. If you'd like to see photos of the parents (we have 5 three-toed adults, two male, three female, we aren't sure how parented these), visit www.aileo.com and look in Alesia or Nathan's photo albums for our turtle albums. Three-toed adults are named: Hermes, Hades (the boys), and Xena, Gaya, and Athena (the gals).

How have you been? Sounds like you have your hands full this year, too.
Good to hear from you again.

pretty busy!
I just had to dig up the eggs from one of my gals laying a second clutch already this year. I know two seem to have done so. It's going to be a nerve-wracking summer trying to keep track of them now that they seem determined to lay all through the spring and summer.

I know the feeling...
We just started with round two, here, too, so we're going to have our hands full.
Also worthy of mention: because of the wet weather I've been picking lots of mushrooms, and mine really seem to like anything with a red or orange color to it, particularly the meaty-looking ones with red caps. My neighbors toddler likes picking mushrooms and lobbing them into the pen, so I get a little help there.
Say hello to Alesia

We never seem to get anything but white mushrooms and these giant soccerball things that explode spores like a dust-cloud.

We did get a plum from one of our new trees that had been pecked by birds and rotted a bit. The turtles practically chased me to get at it.

I would love to own a box turtle, i think its wonderful the way that you do things, so that people who want to own a box turtle wont have to buy a wild caught one. I wont be able to send a picture but i can tell you that if i get to adopt one of your box turtle babies, he os she will be in good hands. I have the "know how" to take care of a box turtle.
