New to BPs. Enclosure temp?

pgunders Jun 18, 2004 10:16 PM

Hey, everybody.

I got my first baby BP about a week ago, and he's great. I'm using a heating pad to keep the little fella warm, but I'm worried that I might have put down too much substrate (bark) and that he might not be warm enough. The ambient temp in the middle of the enclosure is 80F, and that seems a bit low--but it's probably warmer directly over the pad. How thick a layer of substrate do you guys use?

If you scroll down a little you'll find two threads which will answer your heating questions, titles are basking light questions and my first snake. As for the substrate, I would say around a half inch should be fine. I personally use newspaper. When it comes time to clean the enclosure nothing beats newspaper. It's hard to beat the price too.
