Females are ready to breed at 4 years of age. And she should weigh around 1200 for a breedable age. Males should be around 800 grams.

I agree with that for the most part. I have seen lots of people breed 3 year old females that are 1000 grams with good success. I'm currently breeding a 3 yr. 4 month old female that's weighing in at 1170 grams give or take a few. Wish me luck.
As far as males go, I don't think they need to be near 800 grams to breed. In my opinion, that's a good size male, but I would think that 400-500 grams would be plenty big. This past season, I had a male that's right around 350 grams produce a fertile clutch of 19 eggs with a wc female....and this female only weighed 1000 grams.
The bigger the better in any case, but I think it's just common practice by some. Some well known European breeders will breed females at 800 grams. Some chondros will just not get large as adults. I think we should just use good judgement when determining when to breed animals.

Hi Brandon Ive seen some of your posts on this and another gtp forum, anyway I was wondering if you could tell me who might have some high blue babies or juveniles. Also who is a safe bet to do buy from. Ive got some animals coming from some of the guys on the other gtp forum, but I was wondering about T.W or John Holland? Sorry to bother you.
Thanks, Sandro
