about a week ago my filter stopped working, and i haven't had time to try and fix it or buy a new one. a couple days ago this yellow fuzz-looking stuff started forming near the top of the water. it then constantly dropped and permeated into all my water. it makes my water look all dirty and now it's starting to smell. plus, i think it's killing every living thing in there, including my plants. HELP!!! what is this stuff and how do i get rid of it? thanks

I have no idea what that is, but what I would suggest is a complete cleaning of the tank.
Take out everything. Make sure everything is scrubbed down very well.

yeah...i started cleaning it out today and found my 2 paddletail newts good and healthy--just on the land cuz the water was so bad. so i transfered them to a tank i setup today and then i'm gonna transfer the other salamanders to another tank until i can clean the rest out. thanks
