Hi.
I photographed this snake in Connecticut. It is approximately 4-feet long, and was spotted by a small waterfall. I think it is some type of water snake, but I'm not sure. If someone can help with a positive ID, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks.

Hard to tell from that blurry photo, but it COULD be a Northern Watersnake (Nerodia sipedon), based on the reported size, the shape, the habitat, the range, and the general muddiness of the pattern.
There really aren't that many snakes in CT to begin with, so I think a Northern Watersnake is the most likely candidate.

hey, where was that taken in connecticut?
im from connecticut myself.
but i would have to say N water also possibly a black racer, those are more towards the western part of the state
Thank you for your replies.
I was also leaning towards Northern Water Snake. I spotted it in Stamford, CT last month.
Thanks again for your help.
Wow, the CT herpers have come out of the woodwork. I'm also from CT, and have been herping the state for 11 years. If theres a snake in the water in CT, its most likey Nerodia s. sipedon. The picture leaves an ID difficult.
