Yet another new lineage of snake: VPI "Black pastel"

Tracy Barker Jun 19, 2004 10:31 AM

Congrats to Camlon Reptiles for their new snakes and Ralph for his ongoing progress on the leucy mystery, and Hillary for her beautiful albinos!

Here is a pic-maybe..of a new lineage of "Black pastel" from a wildcaught male we got as a baby a number of years ago. This is a little female.

This baby looks to have similar characteristics to the wild caught male you featured in Reptiles Magazine March '02.....is that the daddy???????

Looking good Tracy!

Looks very much like ours, and the background you used really brings out the Lavender color. Do you think the Cinnamons and the Black Pastels are the same? All the buzz I hear seems to indicate they are, but we value your opinion on these two beautiful morphs.

Thank you,

I really don't know the answer to this question!
I have a "Black pastel" animal, which is very black and from the original lineage named as such. The criterion I am going by is a description to me of one snake being more black with orange tones vs a softer brown color. I'm sure as with everything there is variation. Because quite a few of these animals have come in from the wild and are being bred I like to do things on a case by case basis. We will have the luxury of saying what is what when we have other lineages to breed them to. Right now I have 4 different animals that are not related to each other in any way. In each case I will breed the animal to a normal and first see if it is genetic (I know that at least two are at this point).

Hopefully everyone will keep everyone else updated when these crosses are made. The first indication on the officially named lineages would be to breed the Graziani animal to the Gulf Coast animal and see what happens!

Gorgeous! Congratulations on proving out your male!
I like your background choice! The black pastel is the bullseye target.

Thanks for the congrats!
