question bout mounting flueroscent bulb...

pogo_the_dragon Jun 19, 2004 07:48 PM

Can you mount the fixture on the side of the glass instead of on the top of the tank?? I just can't get the desired temp and be able to place the bulb close enough to where pogo will get the UVB...He'll only get to the outside of the bulb which I believe I have heard that the UVB is greatly diminished....If I could mount the bulb on the side of the glass I can get him to be able to be right up close to it...

Forgive me if I'm not understanding you... that's entirely possible.

The whole benefit of flourescent bulbs is that they are efficient, that is they don't put out so much heat, they put out lots of light.

The heat they do put out is spread out over a wide area.

In my cage, since the aquarium is fairly tall, I made a top that drops the flourescent down into the tank, as well as the floods. There's still ample room for me to get in and work in the tank when I need to, I haven't had to remove the top since I made it over a year ago.

I did take the light fixtures down and clean them recently.

I run two 65 watt flood lights dimmed to 80% by an X10 lamp module, and have it automated for day/night schedule. The flourescents have to be on a different module for electrical reasons, but I give them a different schedule anyway.

How did you mount the strip light? And how are the floods attached?
