Hypo Chinese Beauties....

kathylove Jun 19, 2004 09:43 PM

Hello everyone!

I usually hang out on the cornsnake forum, but this year (for the first itme) I have hatched two new (for me) species / subspecies of non-corns. So I would like to visit with fellow ratsnake enthusiasts as well as cornsnake keepers.

These are from a clutch of Chinese beauties I hatched a few weeks ago from a group of babies I received from a friend in Hong Kong / China several years ago. He bought a gravid female at the market because she was hypo, hatched the eggs and sent the normal looking babies to me. It is excitng to finally hatch out the next generation and get hypos as I had hoped.

Naturally I am very interested in the project, but haven't found anyone else breeding hypos of this subspecies. If you know any other websites offering these, or just other breeders working with them, please let me know so I can research what is going on with them, and see if there are unrelated bloodlines around.

Thanks!

Very interesting.. Terry Cox also breeds these, and recently had a het clutch born from his Hypo male.. He no doubt will reply to this post. You can see his latest post about the clutch with photos here: forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=484226,484226... I also believe Wai Lui may have hypo chinese.. he doesn't advertise much at all, nor does he often post here, but he has AMAZING beauty snakes.. He hopes to produce snow beauties this year.. *crosses fingers* his website is www.ratsnakesunlimited.com/...

Hi, Kathy.

Interesting snakes. My male is slightly different coloration and definitely a different bloodline (see link to my photos). I am assuming it is a hypo, but have no proof on that. The only person that has a sibling, I think, is Glenn Polanco. I have a clutch of nine, where the female is a het. for calico t. taeniura. I haven't found anyone selling hypos, yet, either, so don't know the market price. I've seen calicos advertised for less than $300 up to $600, so I guess the price will depend on what the market can stand. I'm not sure what albinos are going for either, but I know the hypos are fairly new and there's not that many out there, so the price will probably be higher than an albino's, maybe higher than a calico's.

Talk to ya' more in e-mail.

TC
