For my BP I use ESU Lizard Liner substrate - it's a green felt like carpet. I love the way the color green looks against a Ball Python.

Shredded aspen is a popular choice. And of course there's newspaper. The compressed coconut bricks (Bed-a-Beast, EcoEarth, etc) are great as well - especially for humidity.

Scroll down a bit, there was a thread started yesterday on aspen. Seems there is always different opinons, check it out and deciede, but I will give you mine. It's all I use, have never had any problems that were discussed.

I'm sure you'll here about plenty of substrates. I use newspaper for my rack units. It's clean, cheap and easy to use. For my display units, I use cypress mulch.
