Can't believe it didn't bite me

WildBill Jun 19, 2004 11:03 PM

Sorry, this is sort of a long story. I went kayaking last weekend. There wasn't much water because the silt basin in front of the dam was being repaired, so all water coming from the lake to the river was shut off. We actually dragged about as much as we paddled, but on with the story: We had just hit a shallow spot and had to get out and pull the kayaks over. My wife and dad had gone over and I had just stepped out of my kayak. That when I realized the "rock" I was stepping on was moving. It turned out to a very large snapper (common). I still don't know why it didn't bite after I stepped on it. It tried repeatedly after I caught it though. After a couple pictures I put it down and it turned around and charged after me for about ten feet before turning back around and going back into deeper water. It was a three hour trip, and i managed to catch another snapper a little smaller than the first, two softshells, and around 9 water snakes. The kayaking was terrible, but I still thought it was a pretty good trip.

alot of times i heard snappers dont bite in water(mostly out of water) unless u realy threaten them but steeping on him should have been enough.
